How to Reverse Dementia

47.5 million people world-wide are living with Dementia. While it is thought to be a normal part of aging and irreversible, there is something you may not know.

Dementia is actually the result of side-effects from certain drugs and a toxic overload in the body. It is NOT a normal part of aging, and CAN be reversed.

As we age, the systems in our body become overloaded with toxins and struggle to function optimally. With a healthy diet and regular detoxification practices, however, aging can be a healthy process with excellent cognitive function. I actually experience more clarity of mind as a senior than I did in my youth!

The Anti-Anxiety and Statin Drug Link

The other cause of dementia is drug interactions and side effects. These can often mimic the symptoms of age-related cognitive disorders. For example, drugs that affect cognition and mobility, such as anti-anxiety meds, can make dementia symptoms worse — or even create a facade of dementia in people who don’t suffer from the disease, a condition known as pseudodementia.

Many drugs commonly prescribed to seniors to treat anxiety have side effects that are indistinguishable from Alzheimer’s or dementia, including short-term memory loss and hallucinations. Cholesterol lowering statin drugs like Lipitor, which many seniors take, can also cause pseudodementia.

In fact, any medicine that can cause cognitive impairment could lead to a misdiagnosis of dementia. Classes of drugs including anti-histamines, antibiotics, corticosteroids, anticonvulsants, antiemetics, muscle relaxants and opioid pain killers all carry this risk.
